Storyline: The exploration ship which was sent on the second expedition to Lagrange's planet was extremely unpopular for the crew was a dangerously unstable one. There had been outcries against it, sabotage attempts and the government frowned on it. And yet the teaming population of Earth needed a new planet to colonise. Habitable ones were very few and far between - and so often people already by inhospitable aliens. Then why the antagonism, why the lack of suitable volunteers, when the destination might provide the long-sought solution? The desperate adventurers were not to know the answer until they arrived at their destination - but by then, it was too late!

  • War of the Wingmen [top]

First published in 1958 in the United States by Ace Books Inc.

First published in 1977 in Great Britain in hardback with dustjacket by Dobson Books, 160pp, ISBN 0234720115

Storyline: Only three humans survived the wreck of that spaceship on the little known planet of Diomedes. One was the beautiful ruler of a distant colonial world; another was the fat, slovenly owner of a great Solar trading company; the third was a handsome, blue-eyed engineer. The survivors had food for only six weeks, for the native food was one hundred percent poisonous to people. So in that limited amount of time, they had to gain the trust of the winged barbarians who held them prisoners, end the terrible war that these Diomedians were engaged in, and persuade the wingmen to carry the three across the thousands of miles of unmapped territory to the single Earth spaceport. Their desperate efforts to beat that fatal deadline makes 'War of the Wingmen' one of Poul Anderson's most exciting novels
