About the Author:
Terrance Dicks was educated at East Ham Grammar School and Downing College, Cambridge, later becoming an advertising copy-writer, then a radio and TV scriptwriter and for five years the script editor of BBC TV's 'Dr Who' series. From then on, he really settled down into being a writer of children's books with one of his best known series being 'The Baker Street Irregulars' in which Dan Robinson and his friends pit their wits against the criminal mind. The Ghosts of Gallows Cross is the sixth title in Terrance Dicks' spine-chilling horror series, and it brings together all the children from the earlier books in the series 'Cry Vampire', 'Marvin's Monster', 'Wereboy!', 'Demon of the Dark' and 'The War of the Witches'

Storyline: The four young detectives, who between them make up The Baker Street Irregulars are up against the most baffling of cases. Their friend Detective Sergeant 'Happy' Day has vanished and it looks suspicious - the rest of the police are looking for him for a very different reason to his disappearance -they're investigating a tip off that he was taking bribes in return for information.

The Baker Street Irregulars Dan, Liz, Jeff and Mickey think their friend has been framed and try to find out who is behind it and why. The police aren't able to help them, but the answer might lie in Day's small black notebook, which contains details of the three unsolved crimes he was working on before he disappeared.

The only thing they can do is start following those leads and solve the three crimes themselves. Maybe they will lead to Day as well?

The Inn is said to be haunted by the ghosts of the wicked Sawney family and their innocent victims-lone travellers robbed and murdered in their beds over two hundred years ago. It's also said that these ghosts cannot rest until the Sawneys have saved more lives than they they took in those dark days...

The six children, drawn to the lonely Inn at nightfall, find it is being used for a sinister purpose, as a base for a gang of lunatic terrorists who have stolen a top-secret nuclear missile-launcher, armed and ready to use...Is there a way the children can prevent a nuclear disaster? Could this be the purpose of their strange summons to the Inn?
