About the Book/Synopsis: Mega-Merger Mayhem looks at the boom in mergers in the period just prior to publication of this book in 1989 and discusses the major issues they raised. It identifies the strength's and weaknesses of the government's policy towards M&A at this time and the controls governing competition.

The book also looks at how the companies themselves and their financial advisers behaved in these offers. Finally it looks at the policy implications of the developments both for the UK and the EEC pre-1989, putting forward its own suggestions for change. Seven takeover battles are examined covering the period February 1985 to June 1988 (see below for list of these). Each of these had some issue of interest reflecting important sectors of the UK and global corporate businesses and, or because they illustrate UK and European merger and competition policy.
