Story: In the authoritarian world of 2578, Time Research is a well-established business, and the fieldwork it requires provides a welcome escape for individualists like Benjamin Steward, who do not fit comfortably into the prim and puritanical society of the 26th Century. The latest assignment for Steward and his team is to obtain a recording of the famous 'lost' speech delivered by Abraham Lincoln in 1856-a speech which so hypnotized its audience that nobody remembered to write it down. Making a prelminary reconnaissance, Steward immediately runs into problems, Instead of arriving on the day of the speech, Steward discovers that it is the day after. He meets someone who already knows him, and finds alarming evidence that the mission will go-has gone-wrong. From this point on, Steward strives to avert a disaster he knows will happen... |
