About this book/synopsis: Once an unknown quantity, China has grown to be a potential giant in the international business arena, but whilst China was growing rapidly, the West did not keep up and remained (some might say remains) largely ignorant of China's business environment and the paths open to international farm. This book offers an analysis of China's business environment as it really was in the early 1990s, with an examination of the major business sectors, including finance, accounting, law, management and marketing, trade, foreign direct investment and the management of foreign subsidiaries. The book places particular emphasis on how domestic and international business in China was affected by political events in the years up to 1993. The authors look at how business has changed for international firms working with China, or operating investments and businesses there. Probably most usefully, the book remains strongly mindful of China's culture - providing useful insights into underlying systems of thought and business protocol; and importantly, regional variation is taken into account. The result is a strong combination of succinct analysis, practical guidance and useful recommendations for the international business person and will allow them to take an important step towards understanding China's 'inner world' and her role on the international stage. The contributors to the book are all experts in international business and have in-depth knowledge of how Chinese business works. About the Authors: Oded Shenkar at the time of publication was Senior Lecturer at the Leon Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Tel-Aviv; and Professor of Management and Industrial Relations at the University of Hawaii at Manoa |
